Hi, my name is Sara and I live in my own home with my one year old son, two cantankerous cats, a dog, and a pony in Central Vermont. On October 12th, 2000 I was scalped by an auger at the wood veneer paneling plant and ended up a quadriplegic. As accidents go it wasn’t bad. Really, it was over before I even knew what happened. Since then my life had run the gamut of experiences such as:
Mental Health Issues:
Adjusting to life in the chair
Dealing with the pain and stigma of being a 20 year old woman with no hair
Adjusting to life at home
Health:
Surgeries
Rehab
Recently having my son naturally
Logistical Issues:
Relationships
Difficulties with dating
Travel
Getting the right equipment
Dealing with insurance companies
Building my own home
Hiring and managing caregivers
Personal Growth:
Going to College and completing my associates degree
Finding my way back to horses and successfully competing against able-bodied competitors
Doing nonprofit work in order to give back
Becoming a budding author
Navigating through the world of self publishing
Entering the blogging scene
Each of the above has taught me a ton and provided me with a unique prospective and candid voice that I hope you will enjoy reading.
